TWIF Notes 11-27-23

Welcome Back! What another exciting weekend of games! There were a few upsets, 2 multiple OT games, and a whole bunch of close games, and of course a few routs. Out of 133 teams, 130 participated, which means only USC, Army, and La Tech took the weekend off. Of those 130 teams, none played an FCS team, meaning there were 65 FBS vs FBS games.  That's a lot of games to review. So let's get to the recaps! FBS vs FBS Games Bowling Green  blasted Western Michigan 34-10. The Falcons finish 7-5/5-3 and in 3rd place in the MAC East. The Broncos are 4-8/3-5 and in a tie for 4th (and last) place in the MAC West. Eastern Michigan became bowl eligible with a 24-11 win over Buffalo . The Eagles are 6-6/4-4 and in 3rd place in the MAC West. The Bulls finish 3-9/3-5 and in 4th in the MAC East. Ole Miss survived an assertive upset attempt from Mississippi State to become bowl eligible as the Rebels won 17-7 on Thanksgiving night. Ole Miss is 10-2/6-2, and tied for 2nd in the SEC West as t...

Paul's Picks 2023 Week 13

Welcome Back! Last week I had my best week since Week 3 (when I was 84% correct), as I was 55-13, or 80.9% correct. Overall, I am 601-191, or 75.9%, an increase of 0.4% from last week. I typically finish around 73%, but my goal is always to finish at or above 75%. This is the final week of the regular season in College Football, and there are a lot of conference matchups, but also a lot on non-conference rivalry games, with 0 games against FCS opponents- 65 games overall. Every team except for USC, La Tech, and Army. The stakes are high, as some teams are battling for confereance championahip game berths, some are fighting for bowl eleigibility, and some are fighting to get out of last place. Can I stay above 75%? So far, I am 1-1 on my early picks, so...  Now... on with the picks! Thursday, November 23 Ole Miss @ Mississippi State - The Rebels lead the series 64-47-6, wining 2 of the last 3, but the Bulldogs won 24-22 last year. 3 of the last 4 games played have been decided by 7 ...

Odds and Ends 11-22-23

Welcome Back! Before I get to my early picks, I want to give the top 10 teams in my statistical analysis that I use for my Power Rankings. These are the teams that are doing the best so far this season offensively and defensively combined, based on a formula I devised. 1. Georgia 2. Oregon 3. SMU 4. Michigan 5. Ohio State 6. FSU 7. Notre Dame 8. Louisville 9. Penn State 10. Alabama Here are the teams doing the worst statistically: 133. Nevada 131. Vanderbilt 132. ULM 129. FIU 130. Kent State 128. UConn 127. San Diego State 126. BYU 125. Temple 124. Stanford CFP Top 25 The 3rd CFP rankings were revealed last night, and there were almost no surprises. I was interested in seeing how my weekly Power Rankings would compare to the CFP poll, and I would have to say I'm pretty pleased at the accuracy. 21 of my Top 25 made it in the CP Top 25, and my Top 7 were ranked within the Top 8, but slightly shuffled. Some of the more extreme differences are: 1) I have Washington at #8 (up from #10),...
