TWIF Notes 9/30/19

Welcome back! What an exciting weekend of college football- close games, big upsets, and blowouts (of course).  I spent much of the day switching from game to game- the perfect Saturday! Here is how the games turned out, and some thoughts on each (or at least most). Teams who won against FCS competition, exactly as expected: Syracuse 41-3 over Holy Cross Florida 38-0 over Towson Texas State 24-3 over Nicholls Teams who struggled with FCS teams, but won Pitt barely survived Delaware, 17-14, and trailed for a good portion of the game.   That's it .  Only 4 games against FCS teams this past weekend.  Generally, these will disappear during October, as most teams are playing conference games, but they will reappear in November, especially in the SEC. FBS vs FBS games Memphis opened conference play with a victory over Navy , 35-23, dropping the Midshipmen from the ranks of the undefeated.  The Tigers play

Paul's Picks Week 5 9/26/19

Welcome back! Last week was my worst week yet, as I finished 42-16 for a .724 win percentage.  Overall, I am 234-51, which is 82.1%.  Not bad!  How long can I stay above 80%?  There are a lot of interesting games this week as most teams have finished their non-conference slate, but there are a few still remaining.  Unfortunately, there are still 4 games against FCS opponents this week. On to the predictions! Thursday, September 26 Navy @ Memphis - This game will go a long way in determining who will challenge for the AAC West.  The Midshipmen have looked solid so far, but they've only played 2 games.  Both teams are coming out of an off week, so the Tigers have had time to prepare as well, and both are undefeated.  I think Memphis is the best in the AAC West, and perhaps all of the AAC.  Memphis wins. Friday, September 27 Duke @ Virginia Tech - Each team is 2-1, and each one is coming off of their off week.  I have not been i

Odds and Ends 9/25/19

Welcome Back! Here at Odds and Ends, I plan to look at some stats, trends, storylines, etc. as they play out.  I will also give my opinion on some issues, but you can take that for what it's worth. This is the week I continue with my expanded coverage.  Six weeks into the season, I'll add the teams that are bowl eligible and those eliminated (or in danger of being eliminated). Anyway, let's get into this week's statistics! LIR Let's start with the Last Interception Race (LIR).  In this space, I will be chronicling who has the most attempts without an interception.  After week 1, here are the top 5: 1. Justin Herbert, Oregon- 129 2. Jarren Williams, Miami, FL- 117 3. Tua Tagavailoa, Alabama- 112 4. Justin Fields, Ohio State- 95 5. Jalin Hurts, Alabama- 61 I think this is a fun race to watch!  I wonder how far we will get into the season until everyone has
