Odds and Ends 10/31/18

Welcome Back! Here at Odds and Ends, I plan to look at some stats, trends, storylines, etc. as they play out.  I will also give my opinion on some issues, but you can take that for what it's worth. LIR I think we can declare Tua Tagovailoa of Alabama the winner in this category.  He has attempted 152 passes without an interception, which is more then double the next person.  Also, he has surpassed the earlier 2018 mark of 143 set by Cole McDonald of Hawai'i. The only question now is when (or if) he throws his first one.  All Wins and No Wins This is where I will list all the teams that are still undefeated, and all the teams that are winless.  These lists will get smaller as the season goes on, of course. Undefeated Alabama Clemson Notre Dame UCF Winless UTEP Some interesting tidbits: There is now only 1 winless team, with San Jose State defeating UNLV last week. Undefeated teams have been whittled down to 4, as USF suffered its fi

Power Rankings 10/30/18

Welcome Back! Before I get to the Rankings, I would like to spend a little time on the conference races. AAC In the East, UCF, and Temple are undefeated, and Cincinnati and USF have only one loss.  ECU and UConn are eliminated as each has 4 losses.  UCF still has all 3 on their schedule.  Temple has UCF and USF, and must also play Houston.  USF still must play the other 3.  Cincy has USF and UCF left, but also has Navy. In the West, Houston is the only undefeated team.  All of the other teams have 2+ losses. ACC In the Atlantic Division, Clemson is the only undefeated team, and Boston College is the only 1-loss team.  Clemson plays @ Boston College on Nov 10 in a game that will likely decide the division, unless BC stumbles along the way. In the Coastal, things are a lot more convoluted.  Virginia, Va Tech and Pitt all have 1 loss.  Plus, the Hokies still have to face all 3, as well as Boston College from the Coastal, so I don't see them ho

TWIF Notes 10/29/18

Welcome Back! Last Saturday was , I expected a lot of close games.  However, I did not expect the number of upsets that we had.  Do you realize that of the 11 teams that were ranked 15-25 in the AP poll 9 of them lost?  Here are my thoughts on each game. There are Tuesday AND Wednesday games this week.  Since they occur before my weekly Paul's Picks on Thursday, I will do those picks below (after the recaps). Let's jump right in! Teams who won against FBS competition, exactly as expected Nebraska- This was a makeup for the lost opener against Akron. FBS vs. FBS games Troy easily defeated South Alabama on Tuesday night, 38-17.  This was exactly as expected, and did not foreshadow what was to come.  That's just good plot writing! Thursday and Friday was another matter altogether... West Virginia stomped Baylor 58-14 to remain in the Big 12 race. Ohio destroyed Ball State 52-14 to move to 3-1 in the MAC East.  So
