TWIF Notes 9/30/24

Welcome Back! What an exciting 5th weekend of college football! We had unexpected close games, unexpected blowouts, an OT game, and some surprising results. There were only 3 FBS vs FCS games this week, and 2 were routs, but new FBS member Kennesaw State saw their best chance for a win go by the wayside as they lost to UT-Martin 24-13. The Liberty at App State game was canceled due to Hurricane Helene. The game will not be rescheduled. Here are my thoughts on the FBS vs FBS games. Army opened the week with a 42-14 pasting of Temple on Thursday night. The Black Knights are having a banner year so far as they are now 4-0, and 3-0 in the AAC. Even more, Army has won 8 straight games dating to their win over Air Force last year. The Owls have lost 7 of their last 8, and 12 of their last 14. Miami, Fl eked out a 38-34 win over Virginia Tech to stay undefeated. The Hokies were originally credited with the winning TD on their last play Hail Mary pass, but it was overturned on replay. Paul's Picks Week 5

Welcome Back! I had a mediocre week, going 43-21, a winning percentage of 67.2% (barely over 2/3). There are 56 games in total this week, the fewest since Week Zero, so I'm sure my percentage will come down again, especially since every miss will count more. Overall, I am 245-60, a percentage of 80.3%, and a decrease of 3.5% from last week. There is absolutely no way I can maintain that, but I am still keeping my "pie-in-the-sky" goal at 80%, and my "realistic" goal at 75%. So... on with the picks! Thursday, September 26 Army @ Temple - The Owls lead the series 7-6, but the Black Knights have won the last 2 (2016-17), and are 2-3 in games played in Philadelphia. They 1st played in 1943 (Army won 51-0), with the other 12 games between 1987 and 2017, and only 3 of the meetings were decided by less than 10 points. Army is already 2-0 in the AAC, and 3-0 overall, while Temple is 0-1 and 1-3. Black Knights win. Friday, September 27 Virginia Tech @ Miami, Fl - The Hur

Odds and Ends 9/25/24

Welcome Back! OOC games are starting to dwindle away as all teams move into their conference schedules. Of course, Notre Dame, UConn, and UMass have to play somebody, as does Oregon State and Washington State, so there will be some throughout the season. However, I will stop updating the Inter-conference results each week after next week, and pull them back out at the end of the year. Interconference results We had 64 games this past weekend, and about half of them were of the non-conference variety. Here is where each conference stands in various categories after the 3rd week. Overall : 1) Pac 2 7-1/.875 (2-0  last week) 2) SEC 38-8/.826 (6-0) 3) Big Ten 42-10/.807 (5-3) 4) ACC 37-11/.771 (5-2) 5) Big 12 35-12/.745 (1-1) 6) AAC 24-22/.522 (6-4) 7) SBC 24-23/.511 (2-7) 8) Ind 6-6/.500 (3-0) 9) MAC 17-22/.436 (1-6) 10) MWC 15-23/.395 (1-3) 11) CUSA 11-19/.367 (3-3) 12) FCS 5-104/.046 (1-7) The Pac Two takes over the top spot as the SEC moves into 2nd, dropping the Big Ten into 3rd.  The

Power Rankings 9/24/24

Welcome Back! I had a lot of movement in the PR this week, as we are starting to see some wins and losses pile up. With only 4 games to go on, we are still mostly seeing the results of my preseason rankings just being tweaked a little. The closer teams are to each other in points, the more likely they are to move up or down. Most teams are only moving 1 or 2 spaces, if at all. This week, I downgraded my preseason points and added some stats, so you will see teams move up who lost, and teams move down who won. The big change will happen when I drop my preseason points at the end of this month and thus the rankings will be based solely on the results of this season. In the top 10, Texas moves up to #4, Ole Miss jumps from #11 to #7, and Tennessee moves up from #15 to #10, as Oregon, Penn State, and Clemson all move down one, as does Michigan, which drops to #11. In the 11-25 range, Kansas State drops from #9 to #12, Oklahoma and LSU both drop 2 spots, Utah moves up 3, Miami and Louisvill
