TWIF Notes 9/24/18

Welcome Back! What an interesting weekend of games! As usually happens, when there doesn't appear to be much drama in store, that's when it all happens.  We had some surprising outcomes, and some routs in what were expected to be close games.  Let's jump right in! Teams who won against FBS competition, exactly as expected Appalachian State Duke BYU Houston Hawai'i Teams who struggled with FCS teams, but won Central Michigan beat Maine by the odd score of 17-5. Teams who LOST to FCS teams Colorado State lost to Illinois State.  Mike Bobo may be in real trouble, as the Rams drop to 1-4. FBS vs. FBS games Temple defeated Tulsa 31-17 on Thursday night to get their conference slate off to a good start.  Tulsa is not expected to do much as they fall to 1-3.  However, the Golden Hurrican have been relatively close in all their losses, so they may sneak up on someone and pull the upset, maybe at home ve...

Paul's Picks Week 4

Welcome Back! Last week was the first time I dipped below 80%,as I finished 50-14, or 78.1%.  After 3 weeks, I am 188-42 overall, for a winning percentage of .817, which is still pretty good.  However, I have to admit that all the games against FCS competition has really helped my percentage.  As we move away from those types of games, it gets a little tougher to predict, but that won't stop me from trying!  On to the games! Thursday, September 20 Tulsa @Temple - Temple got their first victory last week beating a decent Maryland team.  Tulsa has played close games against both Texas and Arkansas St.  I have a feeling the Owls are better than they showed the first 2 weeks, and are more like the team that won last wee.  I'm going with Temple. Friday, September 21 FAU @ UCF - Will this even be close?  FAU is a decent team, but the Knights are way out iof their league.  UCF in a walkover. Penn State @ Illinois - Despite their 2-1 record,...

Odds and Ends 9/19/18

Welcome Back! Here at Odds and Ends, I plan to look at some stats, trends, storylines, etc. as they play out.  I will also give my opinion on some issues, but you can take that for what it's worth. LIR Let's start with the Last Interception Race (LIR).  In this space, I will be chronicling who has the most attempts without an interception.  After week 3, here are the top 5: 1. Cole McDonald, Hawaii- 143 2. Alan Bowman, Texas Tech- 133 3. Brett Rypien, Boise State- 112 4. D'Eriq King, Houston- 109 5. Kellen Mond, Texas A&M- 89 I think this will be a fun race to watch!  I wonder how far we will get into the season until everyone has an interception? All Wins and No Wins This is where I will list all the teams that are still undefeated, and all the teams that are winless.  These lists will get smaller as the season goes on, of course. Undefeated Akron Alabama Boston College Buffalo California Cincinnati Cle...
