Welcome Back! We are now about 1/3 of the way through the season for most teams, and there is a lot more interesting info, as we are now starting to see trends. However, OOC games are just about done, so I may put that part aside until the end of the year. Power Rankings 9/23/25

Welcome Back! This will be the last week that I count my preseason factors. That is why teams like Clemson, who is only 1-3, is still in the top 10. I have no doubt that the Tigers will drop quite a bit next week even though they are off this weekend. I've waited this long so that every team will have played at least 4 games, or 1/3 of the season. So get ready for major changes next week! This week, only 22 of my top 34 moved either up or down, and the top 4 remain unchanged. However, we have a new team at the bottom, as Kent State gets back there after a short hiatus. As a reminder, I use a points based system. Teams start out with a certain number of points based on 12 different factors, and those points range from a low of 51.184 (#136 Kent State) to a high of 1,348.285 points (#1 Ohio State), so as you can see, there are almost 1300 points separating 1st and last place- plenty of room to fit in 134 additional teams. In other words, teams are an average of 9.7 points apart, but ...

TWIF Notes 9/22/25

Welcome Back! Even though this 4th weekend of college football didn't have any marquee games, there were still a lot of results that affected conference races and perceptions of conferences.   Winners Oklahoma - The Sooners outlasted Auburn 24-17 at home (with the help of the refs, evidently), but they are still undefeated and should be 5-0 when they meet Texas in the Red River Rivalry on Oct 11. Ole Miss - The Rebels crushed Tulane 45-10 handing the Green Wave their 1st loss of the season. Missouri - The Tigers stayed undefeated with a 29-20 win over South Carolina, and should be 5-0 when they host Alabama on Oct 11. Win that one and they could be 7-0 going into their huge game with Vandy. Yeah, I said it. Speaking of which... Vanderbilt - The Commodores slaughtered Georgia State 70-21, and with a home date vs Utah State next week, should be 5-0 when they head to Tuscaloosa on Oct 4.  Oregon - The Ducks have won 22 consecutive regular season games, and the 41-7 win over ...

Paul's Picks 2025 Week 4

Welcome Back! Last week, I was a decent 59-11 (84.3% for the 2nd week in a row!), making me 210-39 overall, a winning percentage of 84.4% (down 0.01% from last week).  This week there are "only" 62 games, the fewest so far, and very few of them are what I would call compelling. However, we are finally getting into conference play a bit more, but there are quite a few teams enjoying an off week. Let's see if I can have another week above 80%. So... on with the picks! Thursday, September 18 Rice @ Charlotte - This series is tied at 3 wins apiece, with the 49ers winning 3 of the past 4, including 21-20 last year in Houston. However, the Owls have won 2 of the 3 games played in Charlotte. If Rice wants to have a winning season, they absolutely must win games like this, especially since there appear to be at least 5 more losses on their schedule- at Navy, at UTSA, Memphis, UNT, and at USF. In other words, they need to avoid upsets, and maybe pull one or 2 of their own. Charlot...
