Random Thoughts 3
I have to apologize for not even getting close to blogging every day. We've just been super busy getting ready for the move. We spent Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday in Dahlonega, and started with the replacement of the carpet in the living/dining areas. This will be completed early next week (the guy doing it couldn't complete it in one day, and had other projects planned). Wednesday was a day I spent here around the house doing a number of things that needed to get done (I think I blogged that day). Thursday, I had a nerve conduction study done which- surprise, surprise- shows that I have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). Now I get to go back to the surgeon who will tell me I have CTS, and we will then schedule my surgery. All for the low co-pay of $45 for a 15 minute visit to tell me something I already know. Jackie and I did go see Wonder Woman that evening!
Friday, Jackie and I went through my wardrobe and decided what to keep and what to donate (or throw away). I would estimate that we discarded 60-70% of what I owned. Today, so far, I have taken recycling to the recycling place, dropped off my clothes at Goodwill, and finished going through the boxes in the garage, which included another trip to Goodwill with 5 more boxes of donations.
Tomorrow, after church, we will load the car and make another trip to Dahlonega, with more to put in our storage unit (until the floor is done). We plan to work on finding a pet-friendly place for Eric and his friend Kevin to live, get Miller enrolled at Lumpkin County HS, and get me signed up as a substitute. We will probably be there a few days, but we have to come back to Hiram to get Miller to go through his stuff, do eye appointments for all three of us, and do my hand appointment.
Speaking of traveling, Jackie and I have noticed all of the weird street names in this area of Georgia, and all of the confusing intersections. For example, there are at least 2 Florence roads and 2 Burnt Hickory Roads, as well as an Old Burnt Hickory Road. If you travel on Highway 120, you will pass Old Dallas Road from 3-5 times, all on the right. Is this all one road that weaves in and out, or is it several different roads, like Peachtree St in Atlanta?
If you drive North on Highway 92, you will pass Due West Road on your left, and then, 100 yards ahead at a light, Due West Road will be on your right. This wouldn't be all that unusual, except that on your left is Due West St. That's not confusing at all!
A week or so ago, I was driving on Stilesboro Rd (there's also an old Stilesboro Rd) and came to an intersection where I had to turn left or right. Both directions were County Line Rd. When I turned left, I went about 100 yards and reached a light. When I went straight, it was Stilesboro Rd again. Again, that's not confusing at all!
We have also run across Macland Rd and New Macland Rd, Lost Mountain Rd and Old Lost Mountain Rd, as well as other iterations of old and new. We expect any day now to see Used To Be Lost Mountain Road, Might One Day Be Lost Mountain Rd, Future Lost Mountain Rd, or Wants To Be Lost Mountain Rd!
I've been working on my College Football predictions, and I'll be unveiling them in August. No guarantee I'll be any more accurate than any of the magazines, but I don't think I'll be much worse, if at all. My brothers and I have been Predicting every FBS game for many years, and we are usually between 72-78% accurate. That's pretty good, considering what very little research we do.
Until next time, may your day and your loved ones be blessed!
