Power Rankings 11/24/2020
Welcome Back!
I have now dropped all
of my preseason factors, so the resulting rankings are based solely on what the
teams have accomplished this year.
However, because of the staggered starts, and the uneven schedules,
there are quite a few “odd” placements.
You will need to look no further than my #1, but since that team has no
more games scheduled (though they could add more), they cannot add any more
points to their total. I should explain
that I use my own formula to award points for each game, either positive or
negative depending on the outcome. These
include a strength of schedule component and a margin of victory component.
Here are the teams that
moved the most this week:

All other teams either stayed the same or moved
only one to nine spots up or down.
Both the top and the bottom were changed, and
quite drastically. Call it a market
correction, if you want, but the rankings are also affected by the vast
differences in the number of games each team has played. BYU having played 9 games, and winning all 9,
allows it to be ahead of all other undefeated teams, who have played 2 or more
fewer games, in most cases.
In all, 124 of the 127
teams listed moved up or down at least 1 spot, which was 5 more than last week.
A whopping 100 teams
moved 10+ spots up or down! I do not
expect that to happen again; the next few weeks should show only modest
movements, though I could be wrong. With
the dropping of all preseason points, most of the teams are much closer than
they were, so even a few points could move a team 5-10 spots, depending on what
happens to the teams around them.
Several of the biggest
movers didn't play; they moved because of how the teams around them did, and
because of the dropped points.
Ties returned to the
rankings. When there are fewer data points, the chances for ties go
up. Oh well...
And here are the new
