Welcome Back!

Here at Odds and Ends, I plan to look at some stats, trends, storylines, etc. as they play out.  I will also give my opinion on some issues, but you can take that for what it's worth.   Today's blog is a little shorter than normal, as I am focused on bowl results and winning/losing streaks.

Conference Standings

This is how the Conferences are doing in bowl games so far.  I will update this with the rest of the bowls next week.

Big 12 2-0 (4 remaining to play)

MWC 2-0 (1 to play)

Independents 2-0 (1 to play)

MAC 1-0 (1 to play)

SBC 4-1 (finished)

AAC 1-3 (2 to play)

SEC 0-0 (9 to play)

Big Ten 0-0 (4 to play)

ACC 0-1 (5 to play)

PAC 12 0-1 (1 to play)

CUSA 0-6 (finished)

The SEC will play their 1st bowl game today.  The Big Ten begins play on New Year's Day.

The Sun Belt and CUSA are finished with their bowl matchups, with vastly differing results.

The MAC and PAC 12 have the fewest bowl games, with 2 each.

6 conferences have a chance at a perfect winning bowl record.  Only 5 could have a perfect losing bowl record (1 already has- CUSA).

Longest Current Winning Streak

Coastal Carolina dropped off this list, after winning 12 straight, by losing to Liberty in the Cure Bowl.  I chose 6 as the cutoff (for both lists) as that equates to half of a normal season. Louisiana has already won their bowl, and Iowa's bowl was canceled. so their streaks will continue into the 2021 season.  The remaining teams all have a bowl game yet to play (unless it's canceled at the last minute).

  Welcome Back! College Football is only 9 weeks away- just 64 days until the 1st games on Aug 24! That means the college football preview magazines are all out, and I've been hard at work assembling data and researching the upcoming season for my previews. Here is what you can expect from me, and when you can expect it. Beginning on Monday, July 15, I will do my individual team previews. I will basically do 10 teams a day (after doing 12 a day for the 1st 2 days- 134 doesn't divide by 10 evenly...) for 2+ weeks, and then 5 a day for the last 4 days (my Top 20). These will take you through August 2. These will be presented in reverse order (from #134 to #1) according to my own preseason Power Rankings.  On August 5, I'll start my conference previews, which will take 2 weeks. 9 1/2 conferences plus Independents equals 10 days.  That takes us all the way to Game Week! College Football Preview Part I

  Welcome Back! Today starts 5 weeks of my college football previews. I'll begin with 3 weeks of individual team previews, and then conclude with 2 weeks of conference previews. In case you are interested, I get all of my information from various sources. I use the 3 main preview magazines (Phil Steele, Lindy's, and Athlon), but I also use many different websites, including (but not limited to): Google, Winsipedia.com, sports-reference.com, ESPN.com, TeamRankings.com, Wikipedia, NCAA.com, and, of course, individual school websites. I don't have a staff- it's just me- so all of the research is my own from these various sources (it doesn't help when they contradict each other...), so any mistakes are mine. I also don't have an editor/proofreader, so you are likely to find several (many? I hope not) typos, such as commas where periods should be (or vice versa), a misspelled or missing word, doubled words ("the the" in the middle of a sentence, for example...

It's Almost Time!

Welcome back!  It's been about 6 months since my last post, and I'm sure my loyal readers (all 3 of them!) have been wondering when I would be back. Football season will be here before you know it! Do you know how I can tell? The preseason magazines have begun to hit the shelves (and my mailbox)! The various conferences will be holding their media days next month, and then the teams will be holding their preseason camps, with the first games being played on August 27, the stupidly named Week Zero.  But I haven't just been sitting around doing nothing for the last few months. Oh, no! I've just completed my preseason Power Rankings, and so will now begin writing my previews of all 131 teams and the 10 conferences, which will take me up until the first games.
