Power Rankings 10-25-22
Welcome Back!
After 8 weeks, the big jumps, both up or down, now come from the actual wins or losses, who you beat or lost to, and by how much. And for the most part, those jumps aren't quite as big as they've been for the past few weeks.
There is a new aspect that shows up this week that has been masked by the elimination of preseason factors over the last few weeks: teams that are idle will move up or down depending on how the teams around them did. If the teams above them lost, they will more than likely move up a spot or two. If the teams below them won, they will move down. As every team has off weeks at different times throughout the season, this will affect each team at different times. Do not be alarmed; it will all even out in the end. You will notice that I have new teams at both the top and the bottom.
We also have the return of ties. Those of you who have been following this blog from its inception may remember that my 1st year of Power Rankings was littered with ties- sometimes I would have several teams tied for the same ranking even. As I have refined my formula, those have occurred less and less. But this week, they rear their ugly heads again (like last week), as I have a tie at #89 and at #93.
Teams I feel are too high include Troy, Ga Southern, Texas Tech, Arkansas, and FSU. Teams that are too low include Utah, Liberty, Cincinnati, NC State, and WKU. And these are teams only listed in the top half, and are only a few that I feel are off, and strictly my opinion. There are others that I feel are off 1-5 spots either way, but these are some that I feel are more than 5 away from where they should be.
While there are still a few anomalies, as in some teams I feel are too high and some too low, by and large, I'm pretty pleased with where 90% or more of the teams are placed. Again, my goal is not so much to be correct right now, but to be correct at the end of the season.
Here are the teams that improved the most:

Anyway, here are my rankings from 1 to 131 (LW stands for Last Week's Ranking). One thing that is new is that I have added the AP rankings in a separate column, so you can see how my rankings compare to the AP Poll. Notice how my rankings are more closely aligned with the AP Poll. I've also extrapolated the "also receiving votes" from the poll and included those.
