Welcome Back!
I apologize for this being a day late (my Odds and Ends will come out Thursday, and my Paul's Picks on Friday), but I've just been super busy, and it took me a while to update my rankings.
There are quite a few changes in the Power Rankings again this week, as everything is now based on what the teams have accomplished this season.
The Top 10 had had quite a bit of movement, as did the bottom 10, but there was a lot of movement in between.
Most teams moved 9 spots or less. Here are the teams that moved up at least 10 places:
Kentucky +11 to #47
Wisconsin +21 to #60
California +11 to #64
Marshall +12 to #85
USF +11 to #92
Twice as many teams dropped 10 or more places:
UCLA -11 to #39
South Alabama -11 to #50
Air Force -12 to #56
Jacksonville State -10 to #59
Texas Tech -11 to #66
Fresno State -10 to #75
Georgia Southern -10 to #77
Arkansas State -13 to #97
Boston College -10 to #89
Virginia -12 to #90
As you can tell, fewer teams moved a lot of spots. I feel these rankings more accurately reflect what has transpired this season. Remember, I use a point system, so none of this is my opinion.
CFP Top 25
The penultimate CFP rankings were revealed last night, and there were almost no surprises. I was interested in seeing how my weekly Power Rankings would compare to the CFP poll, and I would have to say I'm pretty pleased at the accuracy. 21 of my Top 25 made it in the CP Top 25, and my Top 7 were ranked within the Top 8, but slightly shuffled. Some of the more extreme differences are:
1) I have Washington at #9 (down from #8), but they are #3 in the CFP
2) I have Notre Dame at #12 (same as last week); CFP has them at #17
3) I value Oregon more highly, at #2, while the CFP has them at #5, Ohio State at #4 (vs CFP #6), Arizona at #10 (vs CFP #15), and Liberty at #19 while the CFP has them at #24
4) I undervalue Michigan (my #5 vs CFP #2), Missouri (my #15 vs CFP #9), Ole Miss (#17 vs #12), and Louisville (#18 vs #14)
7) My top 25 teams that were left out are #13 SMU, #16 James Madison, and #20 Troy, and #24 Toledo - notice that all are G5 teams
8) The CFP Top 25 teams from outside my top 25 are Tennessee (my #26 vs CFP #21), Tulane (my #27 vs CFP #22), Oklahoma State (my #38 vs CFP #18), and Iowa (my #33 vs CFP #16).
