Power Rankings 11/5/24
Welcome Back!
Personal Note: I apologize for not getting my TWIF Notes published yesterday, but I do most of my prep work for these blogs on Sunday, but I spent that day traveling back home- 2 1/2 hours to the airport, 2 hours IN the airport, 2 1/2 hours in the air, and 2 1/2 hours on the drive home. I know both of my faithful readers were greatly disappointed!
Before I present my Power Rankings, this week continues those maddening mid-week games. Here are my picks for tonight's games.
Tuesday, November 5
Bowling Green @ Central Michigan- The Falcons lead the series 24-19, winning 3 of the last 4 and 8 of the last 11 (since 1996), but the Chippewas have split the last 2. However, BGSU has won the last 3 played in Mount Pleasant, and 5 of the last 6 there. The Falcons have dreams of making the MAC CG and reaching a bowl for the 3rd season in a row. The Chips have dreams of staying out of the MAC basement. BGSU wins.
Miami, Oh @ Ball State- The Redhawks lead the series 23-13-1, winning the last 4, and 7 of the last 8, including 3 of the last 4 played in Muncie. Each of Miami's last 4 wins in the series have been decided by 7 points or less. The Cardinals are only 3-5, but they've won 2 of their last 3, and are 2-2 in the MAC. But the Redhawks have won 3 straight games, and 4 of their last 5. Miami wins.
Power Rankings
I had a lot of movement in the PR again this week, as we are starting to see some wins and losses pile up. I expect the rankings to be pretty volatile the rest of the way as the point differentials are not as large as they were at the start of the season.
The preseason points are long gone, so that means the rankings are based solely on the results of this season.
Usually, I talk about what has changed, and who has moved the most, but I've been so busy just trying to keep up with stats and predictions that I just haven't been able to put the time in to add a narrative. I hope you'll forgive me.
So today, I'm going to show you how the CFP bracket were set up using my Power Rankings. For the purposes of this exercise, I'll use the highest ranking conference member as its champion. Please realize this is based on where they are now, not where I expect them to finish. This will change a lot, as UGA will play 2 of the other teams listed the next 2 weeks, for example, and the CG's will have a lot to say about who makes it in..
#8 Tennessee would host #9 Georgia, with the winner moving on to play #1 Indiana
#5 Oregon would host #12 Boise State, with the winner taking on #4 BYU
#6 Notre Dame would host #11 SMU for the privilege of playing #3 Texas
#7 Ohio State would host #10 Ole Miss, with the winner facing Miami, Fl
This bracket has 4 SEC teams, 3 from the Big Ten, 2 from the ACC, and 1 team each from the Big XII, MWC, and Notre Dame.
The 1st 5 teams out would be Alabama, Penn State, Louisville, Pitt, and LSU
Until next time, may you and your loved ones be blessed!
