TWIF Notes 12/1/25

Welcome Back! Wow! We had yet another exciting weekend, with a few upsets and a lot of near upsets. We alos have had several more coaches fired and/or hired. This year, I decided to keep up with which teams I watch on TV, with a goal of seeing every team. However, it appears I won't be able to do that. I am short 3 teams: San Diego State, WKU, and Sam Houston. This means I only saw 133 of the 136 teams in the FBS ranks, but I could still see SDSU and WKU in a bowl bowl. Anyway, let's get into this week's winners and losers! Winners Georgia - The Dawgs will be appearing in their 5th consecutive SEC Championship Game, tying the record (Florida from 1992-96), and this will be their 8th appearance in the last 9 seasons, as they've tied Florida for 2nd most appearances overall at 13. Oh, and they beat Georgia Tech 16-9 for their 8th straight victory in the series, tying the longest streak by either team (GT from 1949-56). Alabama - The Crimson Tide may have saved their seaso...

Paul's Picks 2025 Week 14

Welcome Back! Happy Thanksgiving! I am especially blessed this year, as my son and his wife have added a daughter to their little family, my first grandchild. And I am blessed by my loyal readers, few though they may be, for making this effort worthwhile. May this holiday fill you with joy and the warmth of family and friends.  Last week I was back up to where I want to be, as I was 48-16 (75%), making me 611-200 overall with a winning percentage of 75.3% (no change from last week). This time, it was the ACC, CUSA, and the Sun Belt that did me in. This week we are at 67 games, 2 more than last week, as every team is playing except for 2: Akron and UConn have already completed their seasons. I'm 2-0 so far after the early games, which means I'm off to a good start (thanks MACtion!). I am barely staying above 75%, as I keep creeping ever closer to that number. Let's see if I can continue to be above 75% for the year. So... on with the picks! Thursday, November 27 Navy @ Memph...

Odds and Ends 11/26/25

Welcome Back! As expected, my Power Rankings did pretty well in predicting the committee rankings! My top 6 were all in the top 6 and in the 12-team bracket, I have 9 of the 12 (I have BYU, North Texas and Utah instead of Ole Miss, Tulane and Oklahoma). Of the Committee's top 25, I have all 21 in my top 25. Where we differ is in the 20s, specifically 20, 21, 23, and 24. Respectively, the committee has Arizona State (#28 in my rankings), SMU (#26 in mine), Georgia Tech (#32), and Tulane (#33). Teams in my Top 25 that the committee left out were USF, North Texas, James Madison, and Missouri. Not too shabby! Interconference results I will have a full accounting next week, as there are several non-conference rivalry games this week. Intraconference results The Sun Belt East still leads the West 7-6, and have clinched at least a .500 record, as there is only 1 more game left. Undefeated/Winless teams The following teams are undefeated with a 10-0 record (unless otherwise indicated): Ind...

Power Rankings 11/25/25

Welcome Back! Before I begin, there are 2 games today. Last week I was 3-0 on the Tuesday games. Let's see if I can match that winning percentage this week. Tuesday, November 18 Bowling Green @ UMass - The Falcons are 4-0 in this series, winning all 4 played between 2012 and 2015, 3 of them by at least 21 points. The Minutemen are the only remaining winless team in FBS. BGSU is 3-8/1-6 so they're not exactly a juggernaut, but they need this win to avoid this being their worst season since they were 0-5 in 2020 (2021 team was also 4-8). They're lone MAC win was over Toledo, of all teams, and they also own a victory over 4-7 Liberty. UMass is being outscored by 27.2 ppg, and only 2 losses were by less than 18 points: 27-26 to FCS Bryant (a team that's 3-9) and 28-21 to 5-6 Buffalo. This is (obviously) the last chance this season for the Minutemen to end their 15 game losing streak, and their 22-game FBS losing streak, so I expect a super effort from them. But the Falcons ...
