Welcome Back!
Before I begin, there are 2 games today. Last week I was 3-0 on the Tuesday games. Let's see if I can match that winning percentage this week.
Tuesday, November 18
Bowling Green @ UMass- The Falcons are 4-0 in this series, winning all 4 played between 2012 and 2015, 3 of them by at least 21 points. The Minutemen are the only remaining winless team in FBS. BGSU is 3-8/1-6 so they're not exactly a juggernaut, but they need this win to avoid this being their worst season since they were 0-5 in 2020 (2021 team was also 4-8). They're lone MAC win was over Toledo, of all teams, and they also own a victory over 4-7 Liberty. UMass is being outscored by 27.2 ppg, and only 2 losses were by less than 18 points: 27-26 to FCS Bryant (a team that's 3-9) and 28-21 to 5-6 Buffalo. This is (obviously) the last chance this season for the Minutemen to end their 15 game losing streak, and their 22-game FBS losing streak, so I expect a super effort from them. But the Falcons will do just enough to win.
Western Michigan @ Eastern Michigan- This series has been played continuously since 1974 (except for 1977, for some reason), but they actually played 10 times between 1906 and 1930 as well. The Broncos lead 36-22-2, winning the last 2 (26-18 last year), but the Eagles have won 4 of the last 6. WMU merely has to win this game to reach the MAC Championship Game for the 1st time since 2016. At 7-4/6-1, they are all alone in 1st place. At 4-7/3-4, the Eagles are playing for 2 things. First and foremost is pride. A win here would get EMU to .500 in the MAC. Second, and almost as important, would be a chance to ruin WMU's season and perhaps knock them out of the CG. This will be another intense rivalry game, but the Broncos will come out on top.
Power Rankings
Ten of the top 15 have changed, including #1, as every team except 2 has played the same number of games (finally!). UConn and Akron are the only teams who have a different amount of games played as they have completed their seasons. We had only 3 teams move 20+ spots, with 117 teams staying within 9 spots of where they were last week.
Here is how far the teams moved:
Less than 10 spots- 117 teams (43 moved 0 or 1 spot) -9 from last week
10-19 spots- 16 (+7)
20-29 spots- 3 (+2)
30-39 spots- 0 (same)
The biggest mover up was Wisconsin at +21, and down was Cal at -20.
Here is how many teams each conference has in the top 35:
SEC- 10
Big Ten- 7 (-2 from last week)
ACC- 5
Big 12- 7 (+1)
American- 3
SBC- 1
Ind- 1
MWC 1 (+1)
If the Playoff started tomorrow, here is who would make it based on my rankings. Keep in mind the 5 highest ranked conference champions are automatically in, and I am assuming that the highest ranked team of each conference would be the champion. These would be the seedings:
1. Ohio St
2. Indiana
3. Texas A&M
4. Oregon
5. Georgia
6. Texas Tech
7. Notre Dame
8. Utah
9. Alabama
10. BYU
11. UNT
12. Miami
I'm curious as to how this will compare to the CFP reveal tonight.
Remember, I am less interested in being correct now than I am in being correct at the end of the season, and I'm usually very close at the end of the season. However, this is probably the most accurate they have been all year due to every team (except UConn and Akron) having payed the same number of games.
Anyway, here are my new rankings from 1 to 136:
