Odds and Ends

Welcome back!

Today I start my weekly feature called Odds and Ends.  For most of the season, I will mention interesting facts about the current season.  These may be statistical, anecdotal, or just whimsical.  However, since the season hasn't started, I am going to list each coach relative to their job security.  This is not based on anything I've heard (I have NO inside sources.  Anywhere...), but is just my opinion based on over 40 years of observing college football as a fan.  So let's get started!

Warm
(Better get some results soon...)

(Or too many mediocre seasons...)
(Some first year coaches, who are expected to win NOW, fall here.)

Very Warm
(Improvement needed now!)

(A good or outstanding could move them up)

Jim Harbaugh, Michigan

Larry Fedora, N Carolina
Pat Narduzzi, Pitt

Mark Whipple, UMass

Scottie Montgomery, E Carolina

Matt Wells, Utah St
Bob Davie, New Mexico

HOT SEAT
(Win or else!)
(These seem unlikely t make it through the year, unless they have some success...)
(However, a few key wins could move them up!)

Lovie Smith, Illinois
Mike MacIntyre, Colorado
Kliff Kingsbury, Texas Tech
David Beaty, Kansas
Kalani Sitake, BYU
Chuck Martin, Miami
Mike Jenks, Bowling Green

May Already Be Gone
(Just waiting on results on probes.)
(Both have been suspended...)

Urban Meyer, Ohio State
D. J. Durkin, Maryland

I know you realize that success as defined at one school could vary greatly from success as defined at another.  8 wins is not good enough at places like Michigan and Texas, but is just fine at other schools.

That's all for today!  Feel free to leave me a comment as to who you think I placed wrong.

Until next time, may you and your loved ones be blessed!
