Power Rankings 12/18/18

A couple of quick predictions before my regular column.

Boca Raton Bowl
UAB vs. Northern Illinois- The Blazers have had a tremendous season, winning the Conference USA title.  The Huskies also won their conference, the MAC.  I think UAB wins a close one to get to 11 wins.

Frisco Bowl (Texas)
San Diego State vs Ohio- Both of these teams had somewhat disappointing seasons.  The Aztecs finished 4th in the MWC West, after harboring hopes of winning the division, and the Bobcats finished in a tie for 2nd in the MAC East.  SDSU has lost their last 3, and 4 of their last 5, while Ohio has won 5 of their last 6.  Call me crazy, but I'm going with the Aztecs in a mild upset.

The Power Rankings 

Today, I am going to compare my preseason power rankings to the post-season power rankings.  After each team, I list where they started, and the difference.  For example, Washington is #20, but they started at #3, so that would be a difference of minus 17 (-17).  Each year, I hope to get better and better at this! NOTE: This does not include any bowl results.

The teams I were most wrong on were:

Cincinnati moved up 98 spots from the preseason rankings!
Louisville dropped 94 spots!

Today, I attended just my second protest. I've been on this Earth for more than 61 years, and had seen protests, but had only participated once- after George Floyd was murdered. TWIF Notes 12-5-22

Welcome Back! Championship Week lived up to its promise, mostly, as the games were competitive into the 2nd half, but with only one down to the wire. This marks the official end of the regular season, as only one game, Army-Navy, remains. Let's get to the recaps! Teams Who Defeated FCS Opponents, Just As They Should Have New Mexico State crushed Valparaiso 65-3 in a make-up game when they were unable to either reschedule San Jose State or find an FBS foe to fill in. The win gives the Aggies a 6-6 record, their 1st non-losing season since they went 7-6 in 2017. However, with 2 wins over FCS teams, they needed a waiver from the NCAA to be eligible for a bowl, which the organization graciously granted due to their unusual circumstances, so NMSU will be attending their 5th bowl ever! NMSU will be playing in the Quick Lane Bowl against BGSU on Dec 26. FBS vs FBS Games Buffalo  eked by Akron 23-22, scoring a TD with 1:15 remaining to become bowl eligible at 6-6. Odds and Ends 9/9/2020

  Welcome Back! Here at Odds and Ends, I plan to look at some stats, trends, storylines, etc. as they play out.  I will also give my opinion on some issues, but you can take that for what it's worth. LIR Let's start with the Last Interception Race (LIR).  In this space, I will be chronicling who has the most attempts without an interception.  After week 1, here are the top 5: 1. Jack Abraham, USM- 32 2. Grant Wells, Marshall- 23 3. Layne Hatcher, Ark St- 20 4. Austin Aune, N Texas- 11 5. Chase Cunningham, Mid Tenn- 10 I think this will be a fun race to watch!  I wonder how far we will get into the season until everyone has an interception?  This will also be an odd race to watch, as not everyone is starting the season at the same time, and not everyone is playing the same number of games.
