Power Rankings 8/31/21
Welcome Back!
Since there were only 5 games played last weekend, there wasn't a lot of movement in the Power Rankings, but there was some. I use my own formula, and teams may move up or down depending on who they play, where they play, whether they win or lose, and by how much. Their movement is also affected by how far they are from the teams above and below them, and, of course, how those teams fared in their own games. Often, it would seem that a team should move up or down a lot, but it doesn't happen because of what the teams around them did, or because they were too many points away from those teams to move that far. You will also find that as the season goes on, there will eventually be ties in the rankings, as I drop the preseason points (those are usually in the hundredths, while my game points are usually in the tenths).
Since San Jose State played and defeated an FCS team, it did not move at all. The other teams who played moved from 1-3 places, and of course displaced teams around them. This week, I will only highlight those teams that played.
UCLA was the biggest mover, as it moved up 3 spots to #60. Fresno State and UTEP each moved up 2 spots. Hawaii and New Mexico State dropped 2 spots, and Nebraska and UConn dropped 1 each.
Here are the new rankings:
