Power Rankings 10/19/21

Welcome Back!

We have a lot of movement this week. This is not only because of the results of this past week's games, but due to me dropping another one of my 8 preseason rating factors. This is the 3rd of 8. I will continue this for the next 5 weeks until all of my preseason factors have been dropped, so that when we get to the rankings following the games the weekend before Thanksgiving, they will be entirely based on what the teams have done this year.

You will notice that teams that won this past weekend may have dropped, and teams that lost may have moved up. This is because, as I explained above, there are now 2 factors affecting the ranking from week to week- the results from the previous week's game, and the points lost from one of the preseason factors that I have dropped. These points vary from team to team, so every team is affected differently. In some cases, this is simply "market correction".

Again, I use a points based system, and my preseason points ranged from a low of 69.3 points to a high of 1123.54 points, so you can see that there is a lot of room to fit 130 teams in. Many of you have been frustrated by a lack of movement at the top (as have I). This is because much of the spread in points was at the top between Alabama, Clemson and Oklahoma, and the rest of the field. Much of that has disappeared, and as I drop more of the preseason ratings, that will go away altogether. I think over the next few weeks you will see significant change at and near the top, as I expect Clemson, LSU, Wisconsin, and a few others to drop significantly. This week, there has finally been some slight movement near the top.

Purdue +18 to #61

Ball State +13 to #64

Texas Tech +10 to #65

FSU -19 to #68

Toledo -12 to #69

San Jose State +8 to #88

Navy -9 to #89

Temple -10 to #91

Troy -11 to #94

Arkansas State -9 to #98

Georgia Southern -10 to #102

The top 2, and 6 of the top 8, did not change, but Georgia and Clemson finally swapped places. We also had a lot of movement at the bottom, as a new #130 emerged. 12 teams didn't move (it was 26 last week, and 32, 41 and 53 the weeks before, so this is trending in the right direction), 26 moved 1 spot (34 last week), 20 moved 2 (21 last week), 20 moved 3 (15 last week), 10 moved 4 (9 last week), 10 moved 5, 6 moved 6, 6 moved 7, 4 moved 8, 2 moved 9, 4 moved 10, 3 moved 11, 1 moved 12, 3 moved 13, and 1 each moved 14, 18, and 19..
