Power Rankings 11/23/21

Welcome Back!

Before I get into the rankings, we have some early games this week.

Tuesday, November 2

Buffalo @ Ball State- The Cardinals have lost 3 of 4, but the Bulls are on a 3-game losing streak. This is a rematch of last year's MACCG, won by Ball St 38-28. BSU leads the series 10-2, with 1 loss coming in the 2008 MACCG, but the teams have met rather infrequently, with the 1st 2 matchups in 1969 and 1970. Ball St wins.

Western Michigan @ Northern Illinois- The Broncos have lost 3 of their last 4, with their only win over hapless Akron. The Huskies have clinched the MAC West and are merely waiting to see who they will play in the CG. WMU leads the series 26-20, but the home team has won each of the last 6 games. That trend will continue as NIU wins.

Power Rankings

There is massive movement in my rankings this week, as I have dropped my final preseason factor, and there is a major "market correction". This is my 3rd year doing these, and its gotten better each year, but there are still inconsistencies that I need to work out, and so I will make some more changes before next season, and hopefully they will make even more sense. I'm pretty pleased with this week's results, as we have most of the teams where I feel they should be, but I'm still baffled at the placement of a few (you'll see what I mean when you look at the rankings below). I use a formula, so none of this is subjective, except for the weight I give to each part of the formula. That is perhaps where I'll make my next adjustments.

Anyway, the rankings are now entirely based on results from this year, with nothing from the preseason. 

The teams that moved the most were:

Ole Miss +41 to #9

Oregon State +60 to #12

UCLA +52 to #14

UTSA +45 to #15

East Carolina +55 to #33

South Carolina +51 to #41

Central Michigan +41 to #55

UTEP +42 to #73

LSU -51 to #79

Florida -58 to #83

The bottom spot has changed for the 1st time in a while.  4 teams didn't move (it was 7 last week, and 12, 21, 18, 12, 26, 32, 41 and 53 the weeks before), 12 moved 1 spot (14 last week), 7 moved 2 (14 last week), 3 moved 3 (19 last week), 4 moved 4 (9 last week), 0 moved 5, 0 moved 6, 5 moved 7, 4 moved 8, 6 moved 9,81 moved 10, 2 moved 11, 1 moved 12, 4 moved 13, 2 moved 14, 0 moved 15, 6 moved 16, 3 moved 17, 1 moved 18, 4 moved 19, 4 moved 20, 2 moved 21, 1 moved 22, 3 moved 23, 2 moved 24, 4 moved 25, 1 moved 26 and 27, 4 moved 28, 1 moved 30, 3 moved 31, 2 moved 34, 3 moved 35, 1 moved 36, 2 moved 37, and 1 moved 39.
