Odds and Ends 8-30-23
Welcome Back!
Today there isn't much to talk about, as there have only been 7 games so far. Next week, there will be more info, but this particular blog will get a lot more interesting in the next few weeks.

Intra-conference results
There have been no games between divisions so far.
Which Conference is Best?
There are so few games played so far. I will post this next week.
Which Division is Best?
Again, with so few games played, this category is pointless until next week.
Undefeated/Winless teams
I will begin to update this after week 2 games.
Bowl eligible/eliminated
Starting midseason, I keep a running list of teams as they reach bowl eligibility (6+ wins) or are eliminated from bowl eligibility (7+ losses)
Updates on my playoff picks
Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, and Clemson have not played yet, so all are still undefeated, and thus eligible for the CFP!
Games I'm Excited About
There are a LOT of fantastic games this week!
NC State @ UConn- Can the Wolfpack have a magical season this year and finally break through to 10+ wins? Will the Huskies prove that last season wasn't a fluke, and can they make it to a 2nd straight bowl game?
Nebraska @ Minnesota- Can the Golden Gophers get off to a good start and perhaps prove doubters wrong by winning the Big Ten West? How will the Cornhuskers look under new HC Matt Rhule?
Florida @ Utah- Will the Utes get revenge for last year's loss, and can they finally get their season off to a good start? Will the Gators be able to erase their dismal ending to last season and snap their 3-game losing streak?
Stanford @ Hawaii- Can the Rainbow Warriors pull the upset over a Pac 12 team? How will the Cardinal look under their new HC, Troy Taylor?
UT Martin @ Georgia- How will QB Carson Beck do, and how much will the other QBs play? How much will the decimated RB room be able to affect the game, and which RB will step up to take over?
East Carolina @ Michigan- How much will the suspension of HC Jim Harbaugh affect the Wolverines, if at all? Will the Pirates be able to put a scare into UM at the Big House?
Colorado @ TCU- How good will the Buffaloes be, really? Will the Horned Frogs experience much of a drop off in production from last year?
UMass @ Auburn- Are the Minutemen really as improved as they looked last week, or was that a product of playing a bad team? How good will the Tigers be under 1st year HC Hugh Freeze?
Ohio State @ Indiana- Who will start at QB for the Buckeyes, and how productive will he be? Do the Hoosiers have a chance to even keep this close, and if they don't, how will this affect HC Tom Allen's status?
Boise State @ Washington- Will the Huskies take BSU lightly, or will they be focused in? Can the Broncos keep the game close enough to have a chance to win at the end?
California @ North Texas- Can the Mean Green pull a surprise in HC Eric Morris's 1st year? Can the Golden Bears get back to a winning season by starting with a win on the road?
Washington State @ Colorado State- Can the Rams make a big leap in HC Jay Norvell's 2nd year in Fort Collins? Will the Cougars be looking ahead to their game next week against Wisconsin?
UTSA @ Houston- Can the Roadrunners finish the job this year and get the win? Will the Cougars be able to hold off UTSA for a 2nd straight year and get their 1st year in the Big 12 off to a good start?
Middle Tennessee @ Alabama- Who starts at QB for the Crimson Tide, and will others see time there? Will the Blue Raiders give Bama much of a challenge?
Toledo @ Illinois- Will the Illini be able to continue the success they enjoyed last year, or was that a 1-year aberration? Can the Rockets pull the upset, as a MAC team seems to do each year against the Big Ten?
North Carolina @ South Carolina- Which Gamecocks team will show up, the one that beat Clemson and pummeled Tennessee or the one that got routed by UGA and Florida? We know the Tar Heels can score, but can they play enough defense to win enough games to make the ACC Championship Game?
West Virginia @ Penn State- Can the Nittany Lions really challenge the Big Two in the Big Ten East? Will the Mountaineers put up much of a fight in what could be a make-or-break year for HC Neal Brown?
Texas Tech @ Wyoming- Are the Red Raiders legitimate threats in the Big 12 or just pretenders? Can the Cowboys pull the upset and lay claim to being contenders in the Mountain West?
South Alabama @ Tulane- Which team will be able to sustain the breakthrough success they experienced last season? Can the Green Wave repeat as champions of the AAC? Will the Jaguars be able to dethrone Troy in the Sun Belt West?
Sam Houston @ BYU- How will the Bearkats do in their 1st contest as an FBS team? Will they be able to win their 1st game like JMU last year and JSU last week? How will the Cougars handle their transition to the Big 12? Are they a legitimate challenger to make the Championship Game?
Coastal Carolina @ UCLA- Will the Bruins take CCU lightly and be looking ahead to their contest with San Diego State next week? Will the Chanticleers be able to sustain the success started under previous HC Jamey Chadwell with new HC Tim Beck?
LSU vs FSU- Will the Tigers get revenge for last year's loss in New Orleans? Are the Seminoles as good as everyone seems to think they will be?
Feel free to leave a comment. Come back tomorrow for Paul's Picks, as I pick the winner for all 87 games this weekend!
Until next time, may you and your loved ones be blessed!
