Power Rankings 11/26/24
Welcome Back!
Before I present my Power Rankings, we have 2 mid-week games. Here are my picks for tonight's games.
Tuesday, November 19
Toledo @ Akron- The Rockets lead the series 13-9, winning the last 4, including in the 2017 MAC CG. Toledo is 7-4/4-3, and were just eliminated from the MAC CG race, so I'm not sure how motivated they'll be, as some of their best players may be eyeing the transfer portal. However, the Zips are only 3-8/2-5, and have been one of the worst FBS teams for the last 6 seasons (a combined 10-55 in that span, with 4 of those wins vs FCS teams). Rockets win.
Kent State @ Buffalo- The Bulls lead the series 15-14, winning 24-6 last year, but the Golden Flashes have won 2 of the last 3, including the last time they played in UB Stadium. The Bulls are still (barely) alive in the MAC title chase, so they should handle KSU easily, sending the Flashes to their 1st winless season since they were 0-11 in 1998 under HC Dean Pees in his 1st year. Bulls trample the Flashes.
Power Rankings
As we get into the last few weeks of the season, there is still a lot of movement, but teams are pretty much settled into "brackets" of 30 teams or so, and most movement is within those brackets instead of between them.
I'm going to continue to show you how the CFP bracket would be set up if the committee were using my Power Rankings. For the purposes of this exercise, I'll use the highest ranking conference member as its champion. Please realize this is based on where they are now, not where I expect them to finish.
#8 Georgia would host #9 Penn State, with the winner moving on to play #1 Texas
#5 Notre Dame would host #12 Boise State, with the winner taking on #4 Tulane
#6 Ohio State would host #11 Tennessee for the privilege of playing #3 SMU
#7 Indiana would host #10 Miami, with the winner facing Oregon
This bracket has 3 SEC teams, 4 from the Big Ten, 2 from the ACC and 1 team each from the AAC and MWC, along with Notre Dame. Notice that in this iteration, the Big XII would be left out.
The 1st 5 teams out would be Ole Miss, Clemson, South Carolina, Alabama, and BYU.
Until next time, may you and your loved ones be blessed!
