Power Rankings 10/28/25

Welcome Back!

Before I begin, there are 2 games today. Last week I was 0-3 on the Tuesday games. Let's see if I can do a bit better. The good news is, I can't do worse...

Tuesday, October 28

UTEP @ Kennesaw State- The Miners won 43-35 in 2 OTs last year in KSU's 1st year in CUSA and at the FBS level. UTEP is 2-5/1-2, winning their most recent game. The Owls are 5-2/3-0 and on a 5-game winning streak. KSU is certainly playing like the best team in CUSA, but I've been slow in buying in. For one, I'm afraid that as soon as I pick them to win, they'll lose. But I'm going to bite the bullet. Hooty Hoo! Owls win!

James Madison @ Texas State- The Dukes own a 40-13 win over the Bobcats in the only prior meeting, but that was way back in 2022. TSU is 3-4/0-3, but their 3 losses were by a combined 11 points, with 1 in OT and another in 2 OTs. Their best win is over 3-4 UTSA. JMU is 6-1/4-0, winning 5 in a row, and appear to be the Sun Belt's best chance to make the CFP, if they can win out and chaos reigns in the American Conference and the Mountain west. Dukes win.

Power Rankings

Nine of the top 10 are in new positions, as only #9 Texas Tech remained in the same spot. That means we have a new #1 for the 1st time in several weeks!  We had only 2 teams move 20+ spots, with 109 teams staying within 9 spots of where they were last week, and none moved 30+, which indicates to me that teams are getting closer to where they should be.

Here is how far the teams moved:

Less than 10 spots- 109 teams

10-19 spots- 25

20-29 spots- 2

30-39 spots- 0

Here is how many teams each conference has in the top 35:

SEC- 10

Big Ten- 8

ACC- 5

Big 12- 5

American- 4

SBC- 1

Ind- 1

MWC-1

If the Playoff started tomorrow, here is who would make it. Keep in mind the 5 highest ranked conference champions are automatically in, and I have to assume that the highest ranking team of each conference would be the champion. These would be the seedings:

3. Texas A&M

4. Alabama

5. Ole Miss

6. Vandy

7. BYU

8. Oregon

9. Texas Tech

10. USF

11. Ga Tech

12. Georgia

Teams are finally starting to establish themselves, but there are a lot more games to be played.  Remember, I am less interested in being correct now than I am in being correct at the end of the season, and I'm usually very close at the end of the season.
